Raising a family is like living alternately in heaven and hell. But because you love your family so much, all the pain is worth going through if it means seeing your family happy together.

The Downside of Raising a Family

Kids Grow Up…

Sad but true. Once, your kids were all cute little babies with toothless smiles and ready hugs to greet you at first sight. These babies then grow up into toddlers, sweeter than ever and definitely not shy to tell you “I love you”. And they say this as often as they can.

But then they start growing up and you feel less and less significant in their respective lives. All they seem to care about is dating and going out with kids their age. Hanging out with the family now seems to fall under the “uncool” classification of activities.

And So Does the Expenses…

Raising a family costs money. That’s why there’s such a concept called family planning in third world nations and the one-child policy in China. As the number of members of the family increases, as the kids grow older year after year, your expenses grow as well.

If once, all you had to worry about is disposable diapers and milk for the baby, now you have to contend with tuition fees, clothing and other miscellaneous expenses.

The Upsides of Raising a Family

It’s Nice to See You’ve Raised Good Children

There’s probably nothing as pleasing to a parent than seeing their children grow up, graduate with flying colors, get a satisfying, high paying job and raise their own family. Seeing them do all those things and more make all the years of hard work definitely worth it.

It’s Nice to Feel They Love You Back

As they grow up into adulthood, you are also adding on the years and there shall come a time that the tables will turn and it’s your kids who’ll be taking care of you this time around.

At this point of your life, it’s certainly gratifying to feel that your kids love you so much that they want to take care of you now that you’re feeling a bit helpless. It’s when the chips are down that parents are able to feel the strength of their children’s love.

At times, raising a family may seem like more a punishment rather than a reward but parents shouldn’t give up right away because your children are blessings in your life…and if you find that hard to believe, well, maybe, these blessings are still in disguise.
