MISSING FILMS
Over the course of its twelve years existence, the Short Sited Film Festival has screened (from both local Illawarra filmmakers and national entrants) an amazing number of 200 films! But of these 200 or so films, only 150 are currently accessible from the Short Sited archives - which makes comprising a complete historical document on the development of the local short filmmaking scene just that little bit more difficult…
The majority of these missing films hark back to the late 20th century, during the early 1996-99 era of Short Sited (a.k.a. The Shortassic Period). The thought of what these films are going through is devastatingly bleak… Stuck at the back of a shelf, what hope does a film have surviving the inevitable assault of VHS tape oxide particle corrosion?
Already serious work has been initiated into preserving all films that have screened at a Short Sited film festival into a digital format, ensuring that each film can no longer further deteriorate. It is this digitizing service that Short Sited will freely provide to the missing works. It’s imperative to fully restore and complete the legacy of the biggest and longest running film festival in the Illawarra.
Below is a list of the films currently and sadly missing from the Short Sited archives. The pitch is this: Help us complete the full viewing experience for future generations. If you see your work named or know someone that has their film mentioned or if they happen to recognize a listing etc etc, please make an effort to get in contact with us via the forum, phone, email or post. Unfortunately, we are unequipped to receive smoke signals or morse code.
