1. Technical Requirements
(NOTE: It is in your best interest to present your film in the highest quality possible)
- Entries submitted on MiniDV tape must have 10 seconds of ‘black’ or a ‘countdown’ before your entry, and 10 seconds of ‘black’ at the end of your entry.
- Entries submitted on DVD should be region free encoded with a 2-Pass VBR (at 6.8 Mbps average to 7.5 Mbps Maximum). AC3 audio datarate should be set at 448 kbps. No access menu system required. 10 seconds of black at before and after your entry is recommended.
- Entries submitted as a Quicktime .mov file must maintain the highest quality of DV-PAL or H.264 codec compression at full resolution and uncompressed PCM audio at 48Khz, 16-bit Stereo.
- All film entries presented in a widescreen aspect ratio must be formatted to a 16:9 anamorphic transfer for theatre screen display (4:3 square aspect ratio is exempt).
- Audio level must not exceed -7.8 dB. Mastered audio should be audible, containing no distortion, peak audio clippings or audio pops.
- External audio or visual source material not originating from your production MUST have copyright
clearance. Short Sited reserves the right to request evidence of such clearances and to exclude any
entry without the requested documentation.
- Entries must not exceed 7 minutes in length, including titles and end credits.
- All entries must be labelled clearly with the film’s title and your name.
- If entering more than one film, please submit them on separate MiniDVs or DVDs ( Quicktime .mov files are excluded)
2. Submitting Film Entries
(NOTE: Any entries submitted to past Short Sited festivals will not be accepted!)
- Entry fee is $10 per film. Please send cheque/money order payable to: Short Sited Film Festival.
- Each separate entry must be accompanied by a completed and signed [SHORT_SITED_v12.0] entry form.
- Failure to comply with the above conditions will result in your film being ineligible for entry.
- Short Sited will not take responsibility for lost or damaged work; we advise entrants NOT to submit the
original, master or only copy of their film. Entries will be archived and will not be returned.

- DEADLINE for entries is STRICTLY Wednesday 12 March 2008. Please ensure your entry arrives
before 5.00 p.m. Late entries will incur an additional charge of $10 per day
- Receipt of submissions will be confirmed by email.
3. Pre-Selection and Festival Judging
(NOTE: All decisions will be final, and no correspondence will be entered in to)
- There will be a pre-selection process to determine which entries will be screened in competition on the
night of the festival; the finalists for [SHORT_SITED_v12.0] will be posted online and published in the
Illawarra Mercury by Wednesday 19 March 2008.
- A panel of judges will determine the winners of prizes on the night, following the competition screening. The prize winners will be announced on the night, at the conclusion of the festival.
- Finalists must attend the event to collect prizes or nominate a representative on their behalf. Successful national finalists unable to attend are required to pre-record a 15-30 second acceptance speech and submit it via one of the 3 video submission options (see section 1.1, 1.2, 1.3) by Wednesday 26 March 2008.
4. Short Sited Film Festival Inc.’s Rights To Your Film Before, During And After The Festival
- Short Sited reserves the right to use your film entry or scenes from your entry (with or without original audio) and/or stills from your entry for use in promotional/commercial compilations, trailers and media purposes, before and after the competition screening.
- Your entry may have additional screenings following the main festival date. Screenings may include art gallery displays, website video streaming/downloads, television specials, regional festival screening tours or retrospectives.
- Should your film entry receive interest from any industry bodies or representatives, Short Sited will endeavour to put you in direct contact with those interested parties.
